French firewood regulations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since <strong>1st September 2022<\/strong>, the sale of firewood to private individuals is governed by the <strong>decree no. 2022-446 of 30 March 2022<\/strong> and the\u2019<strong>Order of 30 March 2022<\/strong> relating to the marketing of <em>ready-to-use\u201c or \u201dready-to-burn\u201c wood\u201d<\/em>.<br>The aim of these regulations is to guarantee consumers safe, high-quality wood that respects the environment, while reducing emissions of fine particles from combustion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professionals are now obliged to provide clear and verifiable information on the quality of the wood they sell, including :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Species (oak, beech, hornbeam, ash, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The length of the logs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Humidity levels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Volume sold (in stere, apparent m\u00b3, or equivalent)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The origin of wood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The status of drying :\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dry or \u201cready-to-use\u201d wood :<\/strong> humidity \u2264 23 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Wood for drying :<\/strong> humidity &gt; 23 %<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-le-bois-pret-a-bruler\">2. Ready-to-burn\u00ab wood\u00bb<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The term <strong>\u00abready-to-burn wood\u00bb<\/strong> (or \u00abdry wood\u00bb) can only be used if the wood meets the criteria laid down in the aforementioned order, i.e. :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Moisture less than or equal to 23 %, measured on gross mass.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sheltered, ventilated storage prior to delivery.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mandatory statement on the invoice or delivery note:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cReady-to-use wood\u201d or \u201cwood for drying\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This distinction is <strong>mandatory on all invoices<\/strong>, to inform the consumer about the real quality of the product purchased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-les-labels-et-normes-de-qualite\">3. Quality labels and standards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some suppliers are voluntarily committed to a certification process, a guarantee of quality and transparency:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>NF Solid biofuels<\/strong> Compliance with standard NF EN ISO 17225-5.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Label France Bois B\u00fbche<\/strong> Local, well-dried wood from sustainably managed forests.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These labels are not compulsory, but they do represent a <strong>additional guarantee<\/strong> for the consumer and for the sustainability of the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-pourquoi-privilegier-un-bois-sec\">4. Why choose dry wood?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>damp wood<\/strong> burns poorly, clogs the flue, encourages the formation of bistre and reduces the efficiency of the stove or chimney.<br>Conversely, a <strong>well-dried wood<\/strong> insurance :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete, cleaner combustion,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Better energy performance,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A significant reduction in particulate emissions,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extended flue life.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-facturation-et-mentions-obligatoires\">5. Invoicing and compulsory information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All purchases of firewood must be accompanied by a <strong>invoice<\/strong> comprising :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Seller's name and address,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Delivery date,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Product designation : \u201cWood for drying or ready-to-use wood,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Essence, length, volume, moisture content,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unit price and total incl.
